Just what is and what is not fruit Gal 5:22 ; Phil 1:11

In our study of Paul's prayer in Phil 1:9-11;as expanded by the Gal 5:22-23 passage we saw that he used the Greek word " êáñðüò karpos "which refers to the fruit or production which comes from the work of God the Holy Spirit in the believer's life as the believer advances in their PMA of Bible Doctrine.

We have examined the 9 facets of this production which is exhibited in the believer who has God the Holy Spirit working in them.

We have started a brief study to examine just what this production is and what it is not.

Today we are picking up where we left off last time in our discussion regarding the false dichotomy that some believers have regarding their secular life and their spiritual life.

God indwells the believer's body, which is a spiritual temple, so that wherever the believer goes and whatever they do, their work can be spiritual production because it is a function of TLJC living inside them and as a result whatever they do in that power system produces fruit and glorifies God. 1Cor 6:19-20; 1Cor 10:31; Col 3:23-24;

We see here that the scripture clearly says that the believer is always indwelled by God the Holy Spirit and that all that is done is to be done to Glorify God so it is incorrect for the believer to view their relationship with God in a spiritual vs. secular paradigm.

Fruitfulness as a production of the Spirit in the believer is a function of one's motivation in all events of life. When the believer resides and functions inside the PPOG they can regard everything that they do as pleasing to God just as TLJC did. John 8:29; Of course in his impeccability he executed this perfectly at all times but the believer only does this as they are living and functioning in the new creation that they are in TLJC 1John 5:18;

Simulation is not production 2Tim 3:5;

Some believers attempt to reduce the Christian life to an external simulation of what they believe Christ would do. This would include the "what would Jesus do" crowd.

They try to imitate what they believe to be the ideal model, or mimic some other believer that they admire.

Believers are instructed to learn Bible Doctrine which when inculcated establishes good principles which when lived in produce what God would have them to be as a unique individual. Eph 5:1,14,18;.

This results an inward reality, which is established in metabolized Bible Doctrine, which is ultimately manifested outwardly in the believer as the fruit of the Spirit in the power of God.

The Spiritual life is not a self-improvement project whereby the believer in the energy of the flesh strives to simulate the life of Christ or some other believer. It is the product of the supernatural power of Bible Doctrine and the Filling of God the Holy Spirit that works in them (by grace and through faith) to empower and enable them in their new identity. Eph 2:8,10; Col 2:6;

When a believer tries to simulate a pattern that is in another believer they become a double counterfeit and reject Christ's unique work in their own life.

The first counterfeit occurs when a believer who is simulating another believer is straining to duplicate in their own energy of the flesh, the life that is effortlessly being produced by TLJC in the believer that is the object of the simulation. Eph 2:9;

The "fruit" that God is producing in the other believer is spontaneous and effortless but it is artificial and difficult for the one doing the simulation.

The second counterfeit occurs because the believer who is simulating another believer is laboring in their own strength to be a different branch on the vine than Christ intends them to be which is to infer that, "I do not believe that Christ is adequate to be in me, as my unique self, what He is in this other person. I am not content to be what I am by the grace of God."

We will now look at some things that God himself describes as "fruit” which are recorded in the Bible.

Some passages where the Greek word "karpos" which is translated as "fruit” is used to refer to God's production in the believer are: John 15:1-8;, Gal 5:22-23;, Ephesians 5:8-13, James 3:17-18, Phil 1:11; Col 1:10; Heb 2:11;

TLJC's focus in John 15 is on the believer "abiding" or residing in him John 15:1-8; which results in love John 15:9; , joy John 15:11;), and obedience John 15:14;

He also refers to his peace which results from this abiding in the preceding context. John 14:27;
