Col 1:10 The Plugger

Continuing in our study of prayer as part of the PPOG for the spiritual life of the believer we are now looking at Paul and Timothy's prayer for the believer's spiritual growth in Col 1:9-12;

In verse 9 we have "Since the day we heard of you, [we] have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you ” may be filled (pleroo) with the knowledge (epignosis) of His will (thelema) and all spiritual wisdom (sophia) and understanding (sunesis).

The purpose for being filled with the knowledge of his will and all spiritual wisdom and understanding is:

Col 1:10; That you might walk "peripateo" (manner of life) worthy of the Lord (on tracks of righteousness), pleasing God in all things, constantly producing (present tense active voice of "karpophoreo" which describes a habit) every good work (divine good" agathos"), constantly receiving spiritual growth [present tense passive voice of, "auxano" for describing another habit) by means of epignosis knowledge (doctrine taught by the Holy Spirit) from the ultimate source of God (revelation from Bible Doctrine);

Paul's prayer for their being filled with the knowledge of his will and all spiritual wisdom and understanding was for them be able to walk and preserve in the Christian way of life in their regenerate life as a members of the new spiritual species and the Royal Family of God.

His desire is for them to "keep on plugging” by means of Bible Doctrine in their spiritual advance.

"Pluggger" is an informal word that refers to a person who keeps on moving, who relentlessly keeps on keeping on.

In the Christian life the plugger is the believer who continues in the Word of TLJC day in and day out. They are believers in TLJC who are under doctrine, and moving forward.

The plugger has indomitable positive volition toward the Word of God as it is "cut straight" and communicated accurately by a divinely authorized and gifted communicator.

Doctrine--> Integrity--> Uprightness->> Honor----> Glory

The plugger perseveres regardless of the circumstances or details of life, regardless of the season, regardless of prosperity or adversity, regardless of the trends and mega-
trends that catch others up and carry them away for a while. Eph 4:14;

The plugger at times seems to be running the spiritual race "on all cylinders." At other times me plugger seems to be just plodding along and barely moving, but regardless, the plugger keeps on moving.

When the plugging believer sins, they acknowledge it quickly and keep moving. They recognize that they must continuously appropriate the grace of God in order not to become bogged down.

They don't have time for too much self-analysis because they know that too much time in self-analysis can turn into self-absorption.

If the plugger suffers a setback, they don't indulge in self-pity. They may be tempted to and he may even try it a little but they persist in their application of Bible Doctrine and keep moving.

Sometimes the plugger seems to be making spiritual progress in leaps and bounds, but most of the time they are not even aware of their own spiritual progress or level of spiritual maturation.

Most of the time they are making imperceptible gains because they are moving against resistance-from the world, from their own OSN, from other people who are controlled by their OSN, and from the invisible spiritual enemies in the devil's kosmos.

They are bucking the trend of the kosmos, and not going with the flow issued from the adversary's throne, Instead they are stationed at the throne of grace, where they have instant access to reinforcement in time of need. Heb 4:16;

They are not always running, in fact, most of me time they are walking and not fainting because they wait on the Lord to renew their strength. Isa 40:31;

They are not too proud to keep on accepting the strength and power that comes from the grace and generosity of TLJC.

Sometimes it seems to them that the grace is measured out by the mile, but much of the time it seems to be measured by the yard and on some really tight days it seems to be measured out by the inch, but regardless of the measure of grace deployed, the plugger has found out that the grace of God is always enough for the moment.

The plugger generally doesn't stick out in a crowd. They are relatively unknown but they are content with relative anonymity. They have a pastor-teacher whom they recognize as the channel for the Shepherd's voice.

The face of the plugger is radiant from being exposed to the light of the Lord which is Bible Doctrine. Psa 34:2,5; 2Cor 3:18;

It is the plugger who re-presents the Son of God to this age. They are the ones who humbly listen the doctrinal communicator as their soul makes its boast in me Lord Jesus Christ with the happiness of God.

As the plugger keeps on looking to the Lord through their PMA of Bible Doctrine they become radiant.

They're being delivered little by little from all their fears, and they will be delivered from all their fears.

The plugger isn't going to have shame on their face when they are tested. They are going to radiate the light of the knowledge of the glory of God that shone from the face of Jesus Christ into their heart as they faithfully, day after day, here a little and there a little as long as its called today, as long as time is measured in 24-hour increments, as long as they have breath they will keep on breathing in and out the God breathed Word.
