Volition, The first Law of Divine Establishment

In the context of our study of the mandate for believer's prayer in the PPOG. . Phil 4:6; 1Thes 5:17;

We are considering Paul's prayer for the spiritual growth of believers recorded in Phil 1:9-11;

Prayer is a right, privilege and responsibility of believer's in TLJC, the Royal Family of God.

In verse 11 Paul is praying for believers to be filled with the "fruit of righteouseness." which is the result of the believer's PMA of Bible Doctrine which is the mind of TLJC.

Phil 1:11; having been completely filled up ( perfect tense passive voice )with the production of righteousness [which is the total fulfillment of spiritual progress] which comes through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God

We are examining the phrase "fruit of righteousness" translated from the Greek words (karpon dikaiosune) which is produced in the believer through TLJC under the ministry of God the Holy Spirit.

We have seen that in the Phil 1:11; passage the production is viewed with regard to the quality of it's character as the “fruit of righteousness,” and in Gal 5:22, the same production is viewed with regard to it's source as the “fruit of the Spirit.”where it's characteristics are also described.

We have looked at the first (5) facets of this production of Righteousness which are Integrity Love (Agape) , The Happiness of God (Chara) , Inner Peace and Overt Prosperity (Eirene), Patience and longsuffering (makrothumia) and kindness, graciousness, generosity, and sensitivity to others (chrestotes).

We are presently studying the sixth part of the fruit of righteousness which is the production of the Spirit in the believer who has the thinking of TLJC through metabolized Bible Doctrine as described by the Greek noun "agathosune", which is from the root "agathos" which means which means to be generous, virtuous and to produce divine good. Divine good has inherent or intrinsic value.

We have seen that Divine good is an absolute concept related to God and his perfection and that Human good is a relative concept related to mankind and imperfection. and that there are (3) categories of good in human history: Human Good, Morality or Establishment Good and Divine Good.

We are presently discussing Moralality or Establishment good as a subset of Human Good and contrasting it with Divine Good in human history.

Last time we discussed legitimate and illegitimate authority and saw that God was the source of all legitimate authority through the laws of divine establishment and that Satan and his kosmic system were the source of illegitimate authority. We also saw that each successive category of the the laws of divine establishment is built hierarchically on the authority estabilshed by of the previous laws.

The first law of divine establishment is Volition which is one's authority over one’s own soul, Gen 2:16-17; Deut 30:19; Joshua 24:15; 1Kings 18:21;

God created man with a soul and one of its attributes is free will.

In order for free will to function there must be:

Freedom which is the right of self-determination from human volition, apart from violation of law or authority.

Privacy which is the right to hold opinions, make decisions, and engage in actions that do not interfere with the rights of others.

The recognition of the sacredness of property and life.

Enforcement of the law which is the guardian of freedom, privacy, property, and life.

All mankind ( believer and unbeliever) is therefore expected to think, decide, and act rationally based on establishment viewpoint which is subsequently augmented and strengthened in the believer through divine viewpoint from metabolilzed Bible Doctrine.

God's desire is that with free will man will come to know Him, enter His plan, and serve him willingly. 1Tim 2:3-4;

It is Satan's desire to inhibit human volition to prevent this and the major weapons he employs are duplicity and deceit. Gen 3:13; 2Cor 4:3-4; Rev 12:9;

Once a person has been distracted from making choices for the plan of God through the application of Bible Doctrine then they are easily solicited into making choices for the plan of Satan in the application of Human Good and Evil.

These choices were presented to Adam and Ishah in the garden in the form of trees. Gen 2:9;

The tree of Life represents God's plan and the application of Bible Doctrine; Prov 3:18; She in this passage refers to wisdom which is metabolized Bible doctrine.

The tree of the Knowledge of good and evil represents satan's plan and the application of human good and evil.

Response to authority is a function of human volition. Human freedom provides the option of accepting or rejecting, both legitimate and illegitimate authority.

God has delegated legitimate authority in life for the protection and preservation of mankind, but these authorities are useless to us if our volition does not accept them.

All legitimate authority in life is delegated by God through two categories of truth which are revealed in his word: The laws of divine establishment and Bible doctrine.

All illegitimate authority in life is based upon the function of man's arrogance in Satan's cosmic system.

Arrogance results from the rejection of legitimate authority in life and is the basic mental attitude sin. Prov 6:16; NET note 33

Satan is the first creature guilty of arrogance. He invented it. Ezek 28:15-17; NET

Satan's motivation from arrogance is found in Isa 14:13-14;

Arrogance is the antithesis of grace, a total blindness to the grace of God. Arrogance is synonymous with vanity, which is empty pride in regard to one's person, attainments, or possessions, coupled with an excessive desire to be noticed, a lust for attention, and a lust for approval and praise from others.

Arrogance only brings destruction, Prov 11:2, Prov 16:18,

Arrogance rejects authority. Anti-authority arrogance begins in the home that emphasizes what people call "love" which is actually nothing more than emotional sympathy rather than true love which is training in Doctrine.John 8:31-32; 1John 2:3-5;
