Phil 1:11 Gal 5:22 The Faithfulness of God cont...

We are continuing in the study of the mandate for believer's prayer in the PPOG. . Phil 4:6; 1Thes 5:17;

At the moment we are considering Paul's prayer for the spiritual growth of believers that was recorded in Phil 1:9-11;

In verse 11 Paul is praying for believers to be filled with the "fruit of righteousness." which is the result of the believer's PMA of Bible Doctrine which is the mind of TLJC.

An expanded translation of Phil 1:11; having been completely filled up ( perfect tense passive voice )with the production of righteousness [which is the result of advance from the PMA of Bible Doctrine under the mentorship of God the Holy Spirit] which comes by means of Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God

This righteousness is produced in the believer by God when the believer is functioning in the spiritual life through the application of Bible Doctrine to experience under the mentorship of God the Holy Spirit.

We have seen that in the Phil 1:11; passage the production is viewed with regard to the quality of it's character as the “fruit of righteousness,” and in Gal 5:22, the same production is viewed with regard to it's source as the “fruit of the Spirit.”where details of it's characteristics are also described.

We are presently studying the seventh characteristic of this righteous production of the Spirit in the believer who has the thinking of TLJC through metabolized Bible Doctrine as described by the Greek noun "pistis", which in this passage refers to the virtue of faithfulness which means to be trustworthy, reliable, and steadfast.

God's faithfulness to the believer is the basis for the production of faithfulness by God the Holy Spirit in the believer .... the believer's faithfulness is established in the faithfulness of God.

Believers cannot be faithful apart from understanding and living in confident expectation from God in God's grace provision.

We are examining some examples of God's faithfulness to his people in spite of their unfaithfulness that are recorded in scripture for our benefit. 1Cor 10:11;

Last time we discussed God's unconditional faithfulness to David in spite of his failures and unfaithfulness, today we will start with God's faithfulness to his son Solomon.

Contrary to the command of God, David's son Solomon, married many women from other nations and religions, 1Ki 11:1-2. who turned his thinking away from the Lord, 1Ki 11:4-7.; yet in spite of all this, the Lord was faithful to him because of his father David. 1Kings 11:11-13; he did not remove the United Kingdom from him during his lifetime, but it was divided during the reign of his son Rehoboam. 1Kings 12:17;

Once the Northern kingdom of Israel was destroyed by the Assyrians, the only kingdom remaining was the Southern kingdom known as Judah which is why Israel is referred to as the Jews or Judah rather than Israel many times in the New Testament writings.

Elijah after having a tremendous victory over the prophets of Baal 1Kings 18:37-40; almost immediately runs from the threats of Jezebel queen of Israel. 1Kings 19:2-4; he sits under a tree and complains to the Lord, wants to die, and yet in spite of his cowardice and his depression, after his great victory, the Lord was still faithful to him and sends him food via angel. 1Kings 19:5-8;

Elijah's experience is a good example of why a big event or success in ones life is not the issue in the spiritual life.... Bible Doctrine in the soul is.

Jonah, the reluctant missionary, tried to run away from the Lord because he did not want to witness to the Assyrians because he knew the prophesy that they would be used by God to destroy the northern kingdom of Israel as a nation so he wanted God to destroy them so they would not be able to destroy Israel. Jonah 1:1-3;

God however knew that there was positive volition in Assyria at the time, and whenever and wherever there is positive volition to him he is always faithful to send his word because his desire is for all mankind to be saved. 1Tim 2:4;

When God ultimately forced Jonah into his evangelistic mission, Jonah was very disappointed at the success of his own ministry. Jonah 3:9; Jonah 4:1; Of course it was actually God who was successful, Jonah was simply the messenger.

In spite of Jonah's implacability the Lord was faithful to him and taught him a lesson regarding God's faithfulness and grace.Jonah 4:4-11, and God leaves him on the hill to ponder his faithfulness to all mankind.
