Phil 1:11; Gal 5:22; The Faithfulness of God cont...

We are continuing in the study of the mandate for believer's prayer in the PPOG. . Phil 4:6; 1Thes 5:17;

At the moment we are considering Paul's prayer for the spiritual growth of believers that was recorded in Phil 1:9-11;

In verse 11 Paul is praying for believers to be filled with the "fruit of righteousness." which is the result of the believer's PMA of Bible Doctrine which is the mind of TLJC.

An expanded translation of Phil 1:11; having been completely filled up ( perfect tense passive voice )with the production of righteousness [which is the result of advance from the PMA of Bible Doctrine under the mentorship of God the Holy Spirit] which comes by means of Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God

This righteousness is produced in the believer by God when the believer is functioning in the spiritual life through the application of Bible Doctrine to experience under the mentorship of God the Holy Spirit.

We have seen that in the Phil 1:11; passage the production is viewed with regard to the quality of it's character as the “fruit of righteousness,” and in Gal 5:22, the same production is viewed with regard to it's source as the “fruit of the Spirit.”where details of it's characteristics are also described.

We are presently studying the seventh characteristic of this righteous production of
the Spirit in the believer who has the thinking of TLJC through metabolized Bible Doctrine as described by the Greek noun "pistis", which in this passage refers to the virtue of faithfulness which means to be trustworthy, reliable, and steadfast.

God's faithfulness to the believer is the basis for the production of faithfulness by God the Holy Spirit in the believer .... the believer's faithfulness is established in the faithfulness of God.

Believers cannot be faithful apart from understanding and living in confident expectation from God in God's grace provision.

We are examining some examples of God's faithfulness to his people in spite of their unfaithfulness that are recorded in scripture for our benefit. 1Cor 10:11;

Last time we concluded with God's faithfulness to Gideon in spite of his fear and his failure with the ephod.

God was faithful to Samson another leader in Israel during the Theocratic kingdom. Samson was separated from birth for service to the Lord Jdg 13:7;, and yet he disobeyed God by taking a Philistine woman as his wife. Jdg 14:1-3 ;

He had the endument of God the Holy Spirit and had great strength under the power of God. Jdg 13:25 and Jdg 15:14, yet at times he also failed when under the power of the lust pattern of his OSN.

He was mighty in physical strength, yet weak in resisting temptation.

He called upon the Lord for strength, and after all of his failures and discipline from God, the Lord was faithful to him and answered his prayer. Jdg 16:28-30; and his victory in his death was greater than all of his previous victories combined.

In Acts 13:22;, God refers to David as "a man after my heart" but David also had many great failures in life.

God was faithful to David in spite of his faithlessness; David lied to Ahimelech the priest when he was running away from Saul, 1Sa 21:1-10, and the result of his lie was that the entire city of the priests at Nob was wiped out by Saul except for Abaithar. 1Sam 22:18-20;

2Sa 6:1-13, describes how he did not honor God's instructions regarding how the ark was to be moved Exod 25:14; Deut 10:8; and Uzzah who was helping to transport it and who also should have known the proper protocol because he was a Levitical priest, was killed as a result.

1Chron 21:1-4; describes how David succumbed to the temptation directed toward him from Satan and disregarded the promises of God to fight for Isreal by conducting a census and as a result 70,000 people died.

2Sa 11:1-4. describes how David failed in his responsibility to lead in battle as the King by staying home in Jerusalem and as a result, he committed adultery with Bathsheba the wife of one of his best men and the and daughter of another.

He had to have known who she was since her father was Eliam and her husband was Uriah both of whom were named among David's 30 men of Valor 2Sam 23:24,34,39; and Bathsheba's grandfather was Ahithophel who was one of David's counselors who later defected and backed Absolom in his rebellion against David. 2Sam 15:12;

Bathsheba's grandfather Ahithopohel is considered to be the most likely person to be the subject of David's prayer regarding his betrayal in Psa 55:12-14;

In spite of all of this God remained faithful to David and referred to him as a man of integrity when he spoke of him to his son Solomon. 1Kings 9:4;

Psa 89:30-37; also describes God's faithfulness to David regardless of the unfaithfulness of his sons. This psalm was composed by Ethan the Ezrahite one of David's counselors who is given as a reference point for the greater wisdom of Solomon. 1Kings 4:31; and very similar to Paul's writing in 2Tim 2:13; regarding God's faithfulness to church age believers regardless of their unfaithfulness.
