Phil 1:11 Gal 5:23 Gentleness a facet of the Righteous Production of the Spirit

We are continuing in the study of the mandate for believer's prayer in the PPOG. . Phil 4:6; 1Thes 5:17;

We are looking at Paul's prayers that are recorded in his letters we can better understand what we should pray for.

At the moment we are considering Paul's prayer for the spiritual growth of believers that was recorded in Phil 1:9-11;

In verse 11 Paul prays for believers to be filled with the "fruit of righteouseness."

This righteousness is produced in the believer by God when the believer is functioning in the spiritual life through the application of Bible Doctrine to experience under the mentorship of God the Holy Spirit.

We have seen that in the Phil 1:11; passage the production is viewed with regard to the quality of it's character as the “fruit of righteousness,” and in Gal 5:22, the same production is viewed with regard to it's source as the “fruit of the Spirit.”where details of it's characteristics are also described.

We are presently studying the 8th facet of the righteous production of the Holy Spirit in the believer which is generally translated "gentleness" in the NASB and meekness in the KJV and occassionally translated humility is the Greek word "prautes" which means gentleness, humility or meekness.

We saw that the word in ancient usage was used to describe a gentled stallion and means to have great power under complete control.

Moses is described by this word in the LXX in Numbers 12:3; But he did not start out this way. Acts 7:22-36;

The Gentled believer learns that their power is from God and not from themselves. Exod 14:13-14; Isa 30:15-17; Gal 6:10-18; and is sourced in humility James 4:6;

Because of his relationship God Moses was able to confidently walk into Pharaoh's court and speak what God had to say to the most powerful ruler on the earth at the time. Exod 5;1;

When one understands their place and purpose in God's plan as Moses did, no person no matter how powerful is intimidating, but because of their office they do deserve proper respect and deference. Rom 13:1-7; Titus 3:1-2;

Michael the archangel demonstrated this respect toward the satin the devil the present ruler of this world. Jude1:9;

Jesus exhibited this same courage from his confidence in God before Pilate. John 19:10-11;

When believers understand just who they are in Christ and God's plan for their life, they will have spiritual self esteem and exhibit this same quiet gentleness which is manifested as courage under pressure that comes from confidence in God. Eph 6:10;

David demonstrated this gentleness in is attitude toward Shimei as he was evacuating Jerusalem which had been taken over by his son Absolom's coup 2Sam 16:5-7 ;--> 2Sam 16:9-13;

In this passage we see the production of the OSN in the ourbursts of Shimei Gal 5:20; contrasted wtih the production of the Holy Spirit in the gentleness of David. Gal 5:23;

James makes a similar comparison when discussing the wisdom of this world versus the the wisdom from above. James 3:13-17;
