We are in a study on Smyrna, the base of the pivot power for the first gentile client nation SPQR. When we stopped last time we were in Rev 2:10; that starts with the mandate to "fear nothing"
This took us to study of the faith rest drill where we were noting Heb 4:2; "For we also have been born again, even as they; but the doctrine of hearing (the word of teaching) did not profit them, because it was not mixed together with faith by those who heard."
The word "they" tells us that the faith-rest drill was operational during the dispensation of Israel as well as all previous dispensations. The word "we" tells us that it is still operational today.
Entering into God's rest is not simply a matter of being born again because the believers of the Exodus generation were saved but they still failed to enter into God's rest.
This comparison of Church Age believers with the believers of the Exodus generation tells us that the issue was not salvation by faith the issue was their failure to function in the faith-rest drill.
After salvation, the believers of the Exodus generation were not able to use the faith-rest drill because they were negative to Moses' teaching of Bible doctrine. The Exodus generation had no faith perception, no metabolization of doctrine and therefore no rest.
It is possible to sit in Bible class and not be benefited, because the doctrine that is being taught is not combined your with faith. This is the principle of " having the advantage (hearing the doctrine) is no advantage without the advantage (believing it)."
Heb 4:3; "For we (Church Age believers) who have believed [Bible doctrine as it is taught] enter into the place of rest (God's happiness), just as He said in Psa 95:11; `As I swore in My anger, they shall not enter into the resting place that God had prepared from before the foundation of the world."
The place of rest is the place of blessing it is the place where you depend on the promises of God and doctrinal rationales to handle stress, problems, and adversity in life. They did not enter into Canaan, the place that God had provided for them, because they did not use the faith-rest drill during their time in the desert.
Since they did not claim God's promises that Moses taught in Bible class, God gave them the promise that they would never enter into the place of blessing but instead they would die the sin unto death in the desert.
In eternity past God provided everything that every believer would ever need. In eternity past, God provided in grace everything the believer needs in human history to handle every adversity that comes from living in satan's world.
The faith-rest drill has been provided for every generation in human history. Doctrine is always available to meet and overcome every stressful situation in life. 1John 4:4;
Mixing God's promises with faith is designed to stabilize the thinking of the believer under pressure, confusion, adversity, stress, and disaster. Claiming promises is the way new believers and young believers who have not yet grown up spiritually can function under the faith-rest drill.
In time of stress, the believer begins by claiming God's promises and mixing those promises with a weak faith. As the believer grows in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ his faith increases because faith comes by learning Christ's Word. Rom 10:17;
Stage one of the faith-rest mechanics, results in the believer beginning to prevent the outside pressures of life from penetrating into the soul. Faith claims God's promise; faith applies God's promises, faith; takes control of the situation.
The increase of the faith- rest drill in your life results in the increase of control over your thinking and your spiritual life. 2Cor 10:5;
