In our study on Smyrna, the base of the pivot power for the first gentile client nation SPQR. We are in Rev 2:10; that starts with the mandate "not to fear what you are about to suffer"
When we stopped last time we had noted The active voice: Satan, the greatest executive that God has created, has delegated the responsibility for attacking advancing believers through his cosmic systems of arrogance and hatred, plus his inside help from the 5th column function of the old sin nature.
And "mello" translated " is about" always has some kind of a verb with it, generally an infinitive.
In this case along with "mello" comes the present active infinitive of the verb "ballo" that means to throw, to cast, or to put, so we will translate it: "Do not fear what you are about to suffer; I tell you that the devil is about to put some of you into prison."
Note that "mello plus ballo" is preceded by "mello plus pascho," that means to suffer. You are about to suffer because you are about to be thrown into prison. "mello," in each case, indicates that satan's cosmic system is going to attack you, not satan himself.
You are going to suffer because there is a system that the ruler of this world has built. This system that satan has invented is sometimes administered by demons but more often than not it is administered by evil people, believers and unbelievers, who as satan's minions deploy his cosmic system against advancing believers to prevent or impede their advance.
In this case the people represent SPQR that was one of the greatest gentile nations ever to exist in history. The people of the Roman Empire represent the government. In some cases it was the senate who was responsible for persecuting Christians, in some cases it was the corporations aka industrial complex that God's word calls as merchants, in some cases it would be the emperor.
During the Church Age we have the incipient development of this opposition but he full force of this tyrannical symbiotic system will be up and running in the tribulation after the exit resurrection of the church. 2Thes 2:7;
We see corporations coordinating with the tyrannical deep state in Rev 18:3,11,15,19;
Rev 2:10; The present tense of "mello" is an iterative present and it almost appears to be a customary present denoting something that is reasonably expected to occur when a pivot is being formed in a client nation.
The active voice: the believer under momentum testing produces the action of being destined or about to suffer. The indicative mood is declarative for the reality of momentum inside God's spiritual power system, and therefore the anticipation of adversity.
"Do not fear what you are about to suffer." Again we have mello, plus ballo, that means, "I tell you that the devil is about to incarcerate some of you."
The present active infinitive," ballo," means to put, cast or throw. Then we have a prepositional phrase, "ek" plus the ablative plural of the personal pronoun "su", "some of you" (especially those who were advancing in doctrine).
This is suffering for blessing, for the development of momentum and acceleration in the spiritual life. And then we have one more prepositional phrase "eis" plus the accusative singular of "phulake" that is translated "into prison" that literarily means to be arrested and put in a guarded place under watch such as in a gulag or reeducation camp.
Rev 2:10; The next principle this verse reveals is the historical trend of Christian suffering as testing for the purpose of approval and blessing from God's justice. This starts with the conjunction "hina", that introduces a final clause, denoting a purpose or objective.
It is translated, "so that." Then we have the aorist passive subjunctive of the verb "peirazo," that means to be tested for the purpose of revealing what they were made of. God already knew they would pass but the angelic and human creatures didn't.
This testing is for the purpose of becoming a witness for God in the angelic conflict in the same way that God's Word reveals happened to Job.
The culminative aorist tense views momentum testing in its entirety but regards it from the viewpoint of existing results of passing the test and creating spiritual momentum for rapid advance to spiritual maturity.
The passive voice directs the action to the believers who are living inside of God's spiritual power system. "Hina" plus the subjunctive denotes the purpose clause. And what we are going to see is the basis of the greatest missionary movement up to that point of human history.
The blood of martyrs would be sown throughout the entire Roman Empire over a period of two hundred years. The historical trend of Christian suffering and testing was related to the Roman Empire being forged from a gentile empire into the first gentile client nation to God.
Many believers were going to die in the most horrible way and yet they become the basis for one of the best demonstrations in history that shows how God's people who think with God's Word of truth can resist and oppose the evil arrogant unjust administration of satan's rulership of this world.
At the rate the USA is declining into oblivion because of the rejection of all truth it appears that we may soon have our opportunity to testify in the angelic conflict in a similar way.
