The judgment seat of Christ part 20 The categories of death part 6

2Tim 3:12-13; Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.13 because evil men and demagogues will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

Jer 50:6-7; "My people have become lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray. They have wandered around in the mountains. They have roamed from one mountain and hill to another. They have forgotten their resting place.

7 All who encountered them devoured them. Their enemies who did this said, 'We are not liable for punishment! For those people have sinned against the Lord, their true pasture. They have sinned against the Lord in whom their ancestors trusted.'

Prov 28:1 The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, But the righteous are bold as a lion.

Jesus came to save what was lost and destroy the works of the devil. Matt 18:11; 1John 3:8c; who deceives the entire world Rev 12:9;

Heb 2:14-15; Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

Psa 34:19; Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Psa 91:1-7; He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!"
3 For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper And from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.
5 You will not be afraid of the terror by night, Or of the arrow that flies by day;
6 Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.

7 A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But it shall not approach you.

2Cor 4:17-18; Because our momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

In our study on the judgment seat of Christ based on Rev 2:11; we took up a study of the doctrine of death were last time we concluded our study on physical death and were noting spiritual death that is the predicate for all categories of death.

We noted that the solution to spiritual death as stated in Rom 6:23: is to believe in Jesus Christ. That is why we are described as being born again. John 3:3;

When we were born physically we received human life imputed to the soul. We also received Adam's original sin imputed to the genetically formed old sin nature. 1Cor 15:22a;

The imputation of Adam's original sin to the genetically- formed old sin nature perpetuates spiritual death in the human race.

Rom 5:12; Therefore, just as through one man (Adam) sin entered the world (Adam's original sin), and death (real spiritual death) through that sin, so (real spiritual]) death spread to all men because all sinned (positionally when Adam sinned).

This means that the entire human race is born physically alive but spiritually dead. Mankind is not condemned on the basis of personal sins; mankind is condemned on the basis of the imputation of Adam's original sin.

When we believe in Jesus we are born a second time and we receive the imputation of God's righteousness and eternal life is imputed to the regenerated human spirit. 1Cor 15:22b;

Being born again resolves the universal human problem of spiritual death at physical birth. Personal sins are never imputed to us for condemnation, instead they were imputed to Jesus on the cross 1Pet 2:24; Isa 53:6; 2Cor 5:21; Rom 5:8; 1John 2:2;

The incarnation and Hypostatic Union are a direct result of Adam's original sin because this was how our Lord Jesus Christ entered the world at the First Advent to provide the solution to spiritual death through His efficacious substitutionary forensic spiritual death aka His saving work on the cross.

So real spiritual death is perpetuated in the human race at the point of physical birth because in every case Adam's original sin is imputed to the genetically formed old sin nature at birth. Consequently two categories of spiritual death exist.

Category one is the real spiritual death of Adam and the human race, that is a dichotomous separation from God in time. This means total depravity, total separation from God, and total helplessness to attain a relationship with God on the basis of any human function.

Category two is the substitutionary spiritual death of Christ on the cross is a judicial forensic separation from God in a state of total perfection and impeccability.

This only occurred while the perfect, impeccable humanity of Christ became our substitute by receiving the imputation and judgment for all sins in the history of the human race down to the last sin of the Millennium.

1 Pet 3:18, "Because Christ also died once for our sins, the righteous one on behalf of the unrighteous ones in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh (human body) but made alive by means of the Spirit (omnipotence of God the Holy Spirit)."

In rightly dividing the Word of Truth, we must distinguish between the spiritual death of Adam in the Garden of Eden and the spiritual death of our Lord Jesus Christ who is called the Last Adam on the cross.

Adam's original sin brought real spiritual death to the human race. Our Lord's sacrificial or substitutionary forensic spiritual death on the cross brought eternal life to the human race.
1Cor 15:22;

The real spiritual death of Adam made the human race dichotomous, having only body and soul. The substitutionary spiritual death of Jesus Christ on the cross makes mankind trichotomous, having body, soul, and spirit. We acquire a human spirit at the point of faith in Christ.

The real spiritual death of Adam and the human race is described in Rom 5:12-21.
The substitutionary spiritual death of Christ on the cross is described in Rom 5:8.

The only thing Adam's spiritual death in the garden and our Lord's spiritual death on the cross have in common is separation from God the Father in a state of judgment.

Adam's spiritual death was real and perpetuated to the entire human race through physical birth. Our Lord's spiritual death was substitutionary and provides eternal salvation at the point of regeneration.

The spiritual death of our Lord Jesus Christ was unique, because all the time that He was bearing our sins, He remained perfect, impeccable, and trichotomous. In fact, Jesus Christ was perfect before the cross, during the cross, and after the cross. This was the only spiritual death in all of history in which the person remained perfect and impeccable and trichotomous, with body, soul, and spirit.

The omnipotence of God the Father imputed all our sins to Christ on the cross. Then the justice of God the Father judged every one of them. This may be classified as substitutionary spiritual death and efficacious unlimited atonement.

Salvation was completed on the cross, as attested by His exclamation while still physically alive, "TETELESTAI!" ("It has been finished in the past with the result that it stands finished forever.")

The forensic spiritual death of Jesus Christ on the cross is the only time in history where God the Father under the principle of spiritual death abandoned Jesus in his perfect and impeccable humanity while He was judged for all of mankind's sins. Matt 27:46;

Because our Lord remained perfect all the time He was bearing and being judged for our sins, His unique spiritual death is classified as substitutionary. Rom 5:8;

This is why the only way to salvation is through faith in Christ. Helplessness can only appropriate the solution by faith because faith is the only non- meritorious system of perception. Merit in faith is totally dependent upon the object, which for salvation is Jesus Christ.
