Rom 6:11 The mandate for believers to consider themselves dead to sin and alive to God cont...

In our continuing study of the mandates of the PPOG for believers we are presently looking at the imperative moods found in Rom 6:11-13.

In verse 11 we have the present middle imperative from the Greek verb" logizomai” that is translated "consider" in the NASB. We saw that it means to calculate, to take into account, to evaluate, to estimate, to think, consider, to ponder, to have in mind, to be of the opinion. It is a verb of application.

So the mandate is for the believer to logically consider that they are "dead to sin" because of the retroactive positional truth of their identity in union with TLJC at salvation by grace through faith alone in TLJC alone.

Because of this mandate, we started a study regarding just what the singular of the Greek word "hamartia" that is translated "sin" in this passage means and why there is a mandate for the believer to consider themselves dead to it.

We have found that it is referring to the OSN that all of mankind except for TLJC has inherited from Adam as a result of the fall through the 23 male chromosomes at conception and that it resides in the cell structure of the body until physical death.

Picking up where we left off last time when we were discussing the arrogance of living under the control of the OSN.

There is no mandate to acknowledge the human good and evil that is produced by the OSN because it has not been judged yet.

The acknowledgment of sin is necessary because of sins committed after salvation. Therefore, sin is not the major problem after salvation. The major problem is the function of human good and evil.

Human good and evil function without restraint if there is no Bible doctrine in the soul, This is why when the exit resurrection occurs there will be no restraint on human good and evil in the tribulation. 2Thes 2:7;

Because of the influence of the OSN there are three patterns that believers fall into when they choose to live their life according to the OSN.

Frequent sinning comes from persistent function in the cosmic system,.

Occasional sinning occurs when the believer is spending more time in the spiritual life than in the cosmic system.

Sporadic sinning is when momentum in the PPOG results in the attainment of the three stages of spiritual adulthood and results in infrequent sinning.

Inside the spiritual life is virtue where there can be no sin. All decisions for sin, human good and evil are made outside of the spiritual life

This is why we have the mandate in Rom 6:11; to consider yourselves to be "dead to the OSN" and "alive to God".

This is possible because the "old man", the OSN, was crucified together with Christ so that the body of sin might be destroyed and so that we should not serve sin. Rom 6:6-7;

Along with the understanding that "Christ died for the sinner," it must be further understood that the believer died along with him. Gal 2:20;

This means that the Cross was not only used to put away the sinner's guilt and provide a right standing before God, but also to remove the dominion of the old sin nature and to set man free from it.

As we do this, we are guaranteed that the sin nature shall no longer have dominion over us. Rom 6:14; "For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law, but under grace".

This is God's answer to the believer's struggles and bondage. This is how we can have victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil.

Unfortunately many believers don't understand this so they are they are either living in the weakness of their flesh, in sin, or the strength of their flesh, in self-righteousness.

They are either living in the weakness or the strength of their OSN, and as a result they can't please God. Rom 8:8;

The strength of the OSN cannot achieve what could only be accomplished by God through TLJC on the cross. On the Cross, the OSN was stripped of its governing principle over the life of the believer as it was taken into death with Christ.

Because of this believers have a new identity. 2Cor 5:17; "Therefore if any man is in Christ, (he is a) new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come".

For the believer, the old creature with its arrogance and self absorption was dethroned and removed from power when TLJC said, "It is finished."

This is the reality our passage is commanding believers to live in after their second birth. Rom 6:11;

The second part of the mandate is for believers to consider themselves "alive to God in Christ Jesus".

This means that the believer recognizes that after salvation it is not their living but Christ's living in them. Gal 2:20;

We have seen that TLJC modeled the unique spiritual life of the church age in prototype form and used it to fulfill the law perfectly and go to the cross where he satisfied the Father by receiving the imputation and judgment of the sins of the whole world. This life involves the believer using the portfolio of invisible assets that was prepared for by God the Father for them in eternity past and functioning in that power that has been available as a result of their position in union with TLJC

This involves learning the mechanics associated with it's deployment from persistent consistent PMA of Bible Doctrine in Bible Class that results in the believer learning how to have a lifestyle of wisdom that comes from spiritual growth as the believer advances from spiritual childhood to spiritual maturity by taking advantage of equal privilege and opportunity.

This life is established in the fact that all three persons of the Godhead indwell the believer's body.

God the Father as described in John 14:23; Eph 4:6;

God the Son as described in: John 14:20, John 17:22-23,26; Rom 8:10; 2Cor 13:5; Gal 2:20; Col 1:27; 1John 3:24;

and God the Holy Spirit as described in Rom 8:11; 1Cor 3:16;, 1Cor 6:19-20; 2Cor 6;16;

While all three members of the Trinity indwell the body of the Church Age believer's body, the unique spiritual life emphasizes the indwelling of Jesus Christ, and its relationship to the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit.

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are each have omnipresence, and are therefore imminent, and transcendent. Yet each one locally and individually, indwells the Church Age believer's body in order to provide for the believer's spiritual life.

The purpose of the indwelling of God the Father is related to his being glorified by His plan for the Church Age. His indwelling provides assurance in times of stress and difficulty regarding His work on the believer's behalf from eternity past.

The indwelling of Christ is a sign or badge of the royal family, a guarantee of the portfolio of invisible assets, a guarantee of life after death or eternal security, and a guarantee of escrow blessings.

The indwelling of TLJC is also motivation for momentum in spiritual adulthood when believers face undeserved suffering and suffering for blessing.

His indwelling is the basis for God emphasis over people emphasis in the Christian life.

God the Holy Spirit indwells believers to provide a temple for the indwelling of Christ as the Shekinah Glory of God inside the believer's body, to provide a base of operation for the glorification of Jesus Christ and a guarantee of the availability of divine power to every Church Age believer who chooses to live inside the PPOG.

For the believer to consider themselves "alive to God in Christ Jesus" they must understand the difference between the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the filling of the Spirit, and the difference between the indwelling of Jesus Christ in their body and the glorification of Christ in the body.

The believer's life "in Christ" falls into two classifications. That which is non-experiential such as the status quo of the indwelling of the Trinity, and that which is experiential when the believer is in spiritual adulthood as a result of learning how the PPOG operates.

The believer's life "in Christ" is specifically related to the three stages of spiritual adulthood. When the believer reaches spiritual self-esteem, and continues on into spiritual autonomy in spiritual maturity, God the Holy Spirit, in His capacity of filling (Eph 5:18) and walking (Gal 5:16), enables the believer to glorify Christ in their life.
