Adam and Eve believed in Jesus Christ and God clothed them with animal skins

In our study of Gen 3; where we see Satan's propaganda that leads to the deception of the woman and the fall of mankind last time in Gen 3:18-19; we saw the judgment of the man that also involved the creation itself and resulted in the mandate for the man to work.

Since all the plant life and animal life is under the authority of mankind then all of the necessary requirements for survival are at his disposal. This means that there is no excuse for a person who can work not to have sufficient food.

2Thes 3:10b - Anyone who is not willing to work, should not eat.

v 11 For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.

v12 Now such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and provide their own food to eat.

The responsibility for providing sustenance to one's family falls on the husband and father: 1Tim 5:8; If anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.

The sweat may be inward or outward so the labor may be physical or mental. Man must work to survive, earn a living, and control the animal world. This is the curse of life in the devil's world.

But God has turned cursing into blessing, so that there is the challenge of doing a good job as unto the Lord. Eccles 9:10; Col 3:23; and receiving the appropriate reward at the evaluation.

Just as regeneration turns cursing into blessing regarding spiritual death, so God's grace turns cursing into blessing with regard to physical death. For the believer physical death is God's victory. 1Cor 15:55-58;

Gen 3:20; "Now Adam called his wife's name Life, because she was the mother of all living". Here we see the first marriage in the state of regeneration.

After the fall the woman's name is changed to the Hebrew word "Chawah" that means life. The English word "Eve" comes from transliteration of the Greek word "Eua" the Greek translation in the Septuagint. In the Latin Vulgate the smooth breathing accent was changed to a rough breathing accent and we have "Heva" that became "Eva", from which we get "Eve".

"Life" has a double meaning. It is the fulfillment of the divine mandate in Gen 1:28; to "be fruitful and multiply" and Rom 6:23; "eternal life". In regeneration, the woman is the source of biological life. God is the source of soul life and spiritual life.

While woman (Ishah) is the mother of spiritual death, Adam called her "Life" in her regenerate status as a testimony to her personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.

Gen 3:21;"And The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them."

The sign of their salvation is given as clothing of animal skins, because the animals had to die to provide the skins for the man and the woman. The skins replaced the fig leaves. The garments of skin are a picture of salvation.

The death of the animals depicted the work of our Lord on the cross. The hiphil stem of the Hebrew verb "labash" means God caused them to be clothed. In the same way God causes us to have salvation.

In God's grace policy, everything must come from God. Remember grace is all that God is free to do for mankind because of what Jesus did on the cross.

We have seen the first statement of the Gospel in Gen 3:15; At the time of man's fall, the promise of salvation was first given.

Man had disobeyed God's order not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The knowledge of good and evil was not necessary for a relationship with God. Human good and morality were not an issue, disobedience to God's command was the issue.

Their disobedience resulted in their instant adjustment into spiritual death. The sin was their acting in negative volition, that resulted in spiritual death and Satan becoming the ruler of the world.

In their case their personal sin caused the existence of the old sin nature, which destroyed the human spirit, causing man to become dichotomous and separating him from God.

Because of the imputation of Adam's sin we are born sinners and have the old sin nature in the cell structure of our body. We are not sinners because we sin, we are sinners because we are born in with an OSN. Adam chose for the entire human race that we would be born sinners.

We start with the old sin nature and then commit personal sin, in contrast to Adam who committed the sin to acquire the OSN. The only solution to the problem was God becoming the God-man. Acts 4:11-12;

The woman sinned in ignorance, while Adam knew exactly what he was doing, but both are guilty because both used their free volition to choose to commit the sin.

The virgin birth was essential so that Christ could be born as a man without the genetically formed old sin nature, and therefore without the imputation of Adam's original sin.

Christ lived a sinless life in the prototype spiritual life under the indwelling and filling of the Holy Spirit. Being without sin, He was qualified to go to the cross and be judged as a substitute for our sins. 2Cor 5:21; Rom 5:8;

The Love of God found a way to save fallen man that was compatible with his perfect righteousness and justice (Holiness) Gen 3:15; Christ is "the seed of the woman." The "crushing of Satan's head" is His victory at the Second Advent. The "crushing of Christ's heel" is Jesus' suffering that occurred prior to being judged for our sins.

In Gen 3:21; the man and the woman believed the Gospel.

While Jesus Christ had not yet died on the cross His efficacious sacrifice was absolutely certain as a part of the divine decree. Rev 13:8; KJV This freed the justice of God to save anyone who believed in Old Testament times.

On the basis of the decree by simply believing in Christ by any of the various ways that Christ was revealed anyone in Old Testament times could be saved.

In the Old Testament when you believed, you received the perfect righteousness of God, eternal life, and God the Holy Spirit regenerated you. In the Church Age as a member of the Body of Christ, the Royal Family of God you receive these and much much more.

The Gospel is the information provided that provides the volitional choice to believe that results in an instant adjustment to the justice of God. 2Cor 5:21; 1Pet 2:24;

Because Jesus Christ bore our sins as our substitute the Gospel that must be believed for salvation is Faith alone in Jesus Christ Alone. John 3:16; Eph 2:8-9;

The point when we believe in Christ, the justice of God is free to save us.
The Pattern of Salvation in the Old Testament is described in Gen 15:6; Rom 4:3;This is exactly the same way that salvation occurs in the New Testament.

Abraham believed in Christ and God the Father imputed perfect righteousness to him. When we adjust to the justice of God, we receive God's perfect righteousness. You cannot improve God's perfect righteousness, compromise it, or destroy it. All believers have it and they cannot lose it. Rom 11:29;

Rom 4:1-5; and Gal 3:6; teach the same concept as Gen 15:6.

The justice of God is not free to save man based on any works or ritual. Arrogant legalists always boast about how great they are. Because salvation is by grace through faith the reality is that more you work for salvation, the farther away you get from salvation. Eph 2:8-9;

The pattern for salvation adjustment to the justice of God has always been the same: faith in Jesus Christ that frees the justice of God to give instant and eternal salvation to any one who believes. John 3:16; Acts 16:31;

In the Old Testament, the anticipation of the judgment of Jesus Christ on the cross was just as real as it is for us retrospectively.

No matter how Christ was revealed in the Old Testament, the non- meritorious expression of faith in Christ as He was revealed resulted in eternal salvation. This what occurred in our passage Gen 3:20-21;
