In our study of Mark we are in Mark 9:24; where after coming down from mountain where He was transfigured Jesus met a man whose son's demon possession caused epileptic like fits.

In his conversation with Jesus he had expressed a small amount of doubt regarding his son being healed and Jesus challenged him with the statement.

Mark 9:23; "If you (Jesus) can?????" With doctrine all things are possible. So we took up a study on the doctrine of the importance of doctrine.

Last time we saw that Bible doctrine is the thinking of God in terms of His relationship to the human race. Nothing is more important than knowing what and how God thinks and that He always operates on the basis of His integrity or Holiness.

The Bible uses several different words when referencing doctrine. The words that are used in the Hebrew of the Old Testament include:

"Emeth "means truth , Prov 22:21; Psa 31:5, Psa 25:5, Psa 26:3; Psa 86:11, Psa 119:142.

"Chakmah" means doctrine in the heart or right lobe of the soul as wisdom, it is a combination of the Greek words "epignosis" and "sophia: Prov 2:10;

"Shemuah" means doctrine that is communicated it is translated "message" in Isa 28:9.

"Leqach" that is translated teaching or instruction refers to the self-discipline necessary to learn doctrine, Deut 32:2; Prov 4:2; Job 11:4; Isa 29:24.

"Musar" means what is learned by discipline or instruction, Prov 1:2; Prov 4:13, Prov 23:23. It refers to learning Bible doctrine so it becomes the principle by which you live your life.

Words that are used in the New Testament Greek include:

"Ginosko" from "gnosis" that means to learn, to know; "gnosis" is used for objective understanding in the mind or left lobe of the soul. 2Pet 1:5-6;

"Epignosis" means doctrine that is understood that resides in the heart or right lobe of the soul for immediate application. 1Tim 2:4;

"Prognosis or Progonisko" means doctrine in the mind of God; doctrine that existed in eternity past, the "foreknowledge" of 1Pet 1:2; referring to God's omniscience.

"Logos" means speech, word, thinking, or teaching, Heb 6:1; 1Cor 1:18;. This is the word that is used to refer to Jesus Christ as the "Word" in John 1:1;

"Rhema" is doctrine that is communicated to address a specific situation. It is translated "word" in Matt 4:4;
