In our verse-by-verse study of Romans we are in Rom 5:3. We left off with the prepositional phrase "en"(in) plus the locative of "thlipsis" (pressure and affliction) that includes distressing circumstances, trials, oppression, and persecution.

So the verse reads to this point "and not only this, but also let us boast, brag or express esprit décor when we are enduring the adversities of pressures and suffering.

Next in the NASB is "knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance" the nominative masculine plural of the present active participle from the verb form "oida" (knowing) that means to know something about someone, or to come to know, or to understand.

The present tense is a perfective present that refers to the status of the continuation of existing results from maximum doctrine that is resident in and being recalled from the soul of the mature believer.

The active voice: the mature believer produces the action of the verb through the application of the Bible doctrine that is resident in his soul. The participle is circumstantial. The nominative plural of the participle refers to those believers who have attained maturity adjustment to God's justice from metabolized doctrine.

Next is the conjunction "hoti" (that), used after verbs of cognizance. It explains the content of what is perceived. Plus the nominative singular definite article "ho" (the) makes it monadic so it is used as a demonstrative pronoun to indicate specific afflictions, trials, pressures, adversities, or some other specific distressing circumstances.

The nominative singular subject "thlipsis" (tribulation) means pressure, affliction, persecution, mental distress plus the present middle indicative from "katergazomai" (produces) it means to achieve, to produce, to work to create, bring about, or prepare someone for something.

The customary present tense denotes what habitually occurs to a believer who is advancing to maturity. The middle voice of the deponent verb is active in meaning that explains that pressure, persecution, oppression, trial, afflictions, distressing circumstances produce the action of the verb.

The singular direct object of the noun "hypomone" (perseverance) that can also mean endurance, fortitude, or steadfastness. The Greek word refers to being active not passive in the process so it refers to the proactive activity of learning, recalling, and applying God's Word of truth using the faith rest drill.

It means courageous endurance under pressure through the recall of doctrine that actively opposes, defies and resists the evil.

It also is used to describe heroism when facing physical torture. "Hypomone" describes the basic attitude of the mature believer who has the courage and integrity when under pressure that is necessary to resist regardless of the consequences.

"Hypomone" is expressed in two directions. When expressed toward God it means courage, honor and integrity from recall and application of resident doctrine that depends upon divine solutions while viewing life from the truth of divine viewpoint thinking.

When it is directed toward man and toward the world it connotes honor, courage, and integrity when under pressure from persecution, oppression, or adversity because the mature believer rejects and opposes the propaganda and lies of demonic human viewpoint thinking.

Expanded Translation Rom 5:3; "And not only this, but also let us boast in adversities: knowing that that pressure (persecution, oppression, trial, affliction and, distressing circumstances) brings about perseverance, courage, honor, and integrity in the pressures of life."

We see here that maximum doctrine resident in the soul that is recalled and applied when enduring adversity results in courage, honor, and integrity being demonstrated.

This verse explains that spiritual advance is always tested by adversity in order for it to be proven so as we advance spiritually from metabolized doctrine resident in the soul we should expect to be tested because as we grow spiritually a certain specific type and amount of adversity is necessary to test our doctrinal recall and application in order to demonstrate and to overtly reveal our spiritual advance in spiritual war between God and satan.

It takes pressure, suffering, adversity, testing, and distressing circumstances, to reveal the integrity of God's Word by demonstrating courage, honor and integrity in difficult situations.

Smaller sufferings prepare the believer for bigger ones.

God's justice must provide specific types of undeserved suffering, both as a part of the advance to maturity and then in maturity for every believer who is growing for them to recognize and appreciate God's integrity and veracity through the application of doctrine.

In the next verse we will see that the objective is hope that means to have absolute confident expectation in God for everything we need regardless of our overt circumstances.

Under great adversity the application of Bible doctrine resident in the soul of the mature believer not only produces the courage, the honor, the integrity under pressure, but as it does so it simultaneously intensifies hope (absolute confidence) that is characterized by occupation with the person of Christ. 1Pet 1:6-7;

Rom 5:4; "And perseverance, proven character" The connective conjunctive particle "de" (and or but) plus the nominative singular subject "hypomone" (perseverance) produces the action.

The indicative mood is declarative statement of fact. Next the accusative singular direct object from the Greek substantive "dokime" (proven character) that means tested and revealed integrity so it is translated as (proven character) or (demonstrated integrity).

"and hope" again the postpositive conjunctive particle "de" (and or but) connecting the two clauses in a sequence of cause and effect. Plus the nominative singular subject "dokime" (proven character) that would ordinarily be an adjective but the Greeks often used adjectives for nouns.

It means proven character or demonstrated integrity. Plus the accusative singular direct object from the noun "elpis" (hope) in the sense of developing absolute confident expectation for the conveyance of blessing from God's integrity.

Remember that "elpis" (hope) also means prospect, or confident expectation; therefore it refers to the prospect or confident expectation of direct blessing from God's justice that is a viewpoint that has been developed from maturity adjustment to God's justice from the recall and application of metabolized doctrine.

Expanded Translation Rom 5:4; "And perseverance (courage under pressure) proven character (demonstrated integrity); and proven character hope (absolute confident expectation of blessing from God's justice)"

Rom 5:5; "And the hope does not disappoint" the verse begins with the definite article "ho" (the) that is not translated into the English followed by the connective use of the postpositive conjunctive particle "de" (and or but), plus the nominative singular subject with the definite article, "elpis" (hope or absolute confidence).

The definite article that is not translated makes it monadic and is used to refer to a previous reference in the context that is referring to that same hope, that discusses hope in God's integrity and the blessings that are conveyed by God's justice to mature believers.

Plus the present active indicative of verb "kataischuno" (disappointed) or put to shame, or dishonored, or disgraced plus the negative "ou" (not) so with the negative it means "never disappoints, never puts to shame or never dishonors or disgraces."

The present tense is a static present that describes a situation that exists perpetually to the point where it is assumed to be so true that it is taken for granted as a fact. With the strong negative "ou" (not) it means that there is no way that God's integrity can ever disappoint.

The active voice tells us that the hope that God's integrity produces never disappoints. The indicative mood is declarative for a dogmatic statement of reality.

"And the hope (related to God's integrity) never disappoints." This is telling us that God's integrity is so great and so perfect because it is so stabilized in God's immutability and so powerful from God's omnipotence, that it is impossible to be disappointed in any relationship you have with it.

Therefore when disappointment comes it is when the believer fails, or his friends or his loved ones fail; but God never fails because God cannot fail.

Under God's grace policy man does nothing so he cannot do anything or perform anything by which he could be disappointed in himself. Under grace man does not depend on man, so he is not disappointed when man fails or turns against him.

Under grace the believer depends exclusively on God's integrity that is the source of all blessing that cannot disappoint.

God's righteousness is satisfied with the righteousness of God that God imputed to the believer at the moment of salvation therefore God's righteousness demands blessing for the believer so God's justice provides what God's righteousness demands from His perfect integrity.

When the believer is in carnality and reversionism from control of the soul by the OSN God's righteousness demands discipline that God's justice administers but God still provides blessing.

When the believer is in fellowship under the ministry of the Spirit and positive toward doctrine, as demonstrated by the daily function of GASP, then God's righteousness demands more blessing from God's justice.

God's justice always administers what the God's righteousness demands.

Righteousness is the principle of God's integrity and justice is the function of God's integrity. Therefore either the believer adjusts to God's justice or God's justice will adjust to him. For the believer this is the difference between more blessing and discipline with blessing from God's justice.

Adjustment to God's justice after salvation demands not only rebound but also the daily function of learning God's Word of truth under His GASP system for the acquisition of spiritual information.

God's justice adjusts to the believer in discipline when the believer fails to confess his sins or when he rejects or resists the Holy Spirit's teaching of God's Word of truth.

This means that any disappointment that the believer in carnality or reversionism has is self-induced because he is the source of his own disappointment that comes from his unrealistic expectations in himself, his friends, his loved ones or his circumstances.

But the believer who is positive toward doctrine and advancing toward maturity, or the believer who has attained maturity adjustment to God's justice is never disappointed in his relationship with God's integrity and is never vulnerable to disappointment when he or his friends or loved ones fail because he does not have unrealistic expectations.

God's justice never provides blessing without first providing the corresponding capacity for that blessing. With capacity from doctrine resident in the soul the blessing can never disappoint.

No direct blessing from God in life can be a source of disappointment because the corresponding capacity always comes first.

Occupation with the source always removes any disappointment. Capacity for blessing and occupation with Christ both come from maximum doctrine resident and circulating in the thinking.

This means that only doctrinal believers can actually have and understand "the hope." 1Cor 13:13;

When believers fail the prosperity test and they become disappointed it is because they do not have the capacity for their prosperity and they are not occupied with Christ because they lack doctrine in their thinking.

Disappointed believers with unrealistic expectations are susceptible to the propaganda and lies that come from the demonic influence of satan's cosmic systems. This is why freedom is being destroyed in country today,

The only remedy for this is the application of doctrinal truth that is recalled from metabolized doctrine in the thinking of mature believers.
